White Dove

I'm sitting here.
A tear of sadness drops into my beer.
Why is it life takes all the living out of life?
Just when you realise it's been there all the time
And when you turn around. There's nothing there.

It seems like only yesterday.
You walked into my house an' hung a picture on my wall.
I was so blind I couldn't see
I try to focus on the colours. The kaleidoscope it hits me
Like a bullet in the night exploding.

Just like a white dove you've got to fly away
And spread you wings of peace around the world.

I pulled a baseball cap across my eyes
To hide the shadows from the clouds
The sun is always brighter on the other side.

I took my chances, paid my dues
When I was younger, just like you
But like an old train in a children's book
Some folk run out of steam.

The party lights go down. The music's stopped
I guess we'll have to find a new excuse for living
Or go back to yesterday.

The primate looks across the great divide
Where one man lives another dies
Your destiny's in front of you
He's shown the way. Your time has come for you to leave

Just like a white dove you've got to fly away
And spread you wings of peace around the world.
