St Helier

The flower picking ladies.
Seasonal jobs that won't last long.
The English bring their hospitality.
The Welsh bring their song.
Sun dancing brown skinned surfers
Silhouette upon the sea.
The hot dog or ice-cream parlours
Or cafes selling buns and tea.

And from dawn until dusk
When the rabbits bite the dust
The sun shines with unmerciful pain.
The tourists come and go
Never feeling your wind blow
But that's why they're there. They won't complain.

Like a gold embroidered carpet
Your sands they softly kiss the sea.
As a lady likes her jewellery
Your landscape is a magnet to me.
No fast highways or railway tracks
Nor smokey industry.
Just the turn of the century towns the countryside
Winding lanes and hanging trees.

When at last the day is over
And the stars shine in the sky.
The moon casts down it's yellow beam.
To watch the lovers on the sand.
As they're walking hand in hand.
It's a lovely night for loving tonight.
It's a lovely night for loving tonight.
It's a lovely night for loving tonight.
